This home is a Victorian former coach house in the Frognal Conservation area.
The works comprised the creation of a new two-storey side extension to form a new kitchen dining area with a studio/office space above for a photographer and general refurbishments to the rest of the house.
The side of the existing house was underpinned and the levels dropped by about one metre in order to squeeze two storeys below the existing high level eaves in order to gain consent from the planners.
At the front of the extension, a double height internal void space has been created in order to create a sense of drama both above and below.
The finish of the ground floor is polished concrete with underfloor heating. The new staircase and first floor level are oak.
“The job Jonathan did for us was brilliant! As a photographer I really appreciate the work he did to maximise the light in our previously very dark kitchen as well as making a design feature out of an otherwise awkward and uninspiring shaped space.
To illustrate the transformation, our 'new' kitchen has subsequently proved itself more than suitable as a stylish shoot location, while still being a working, family kitchen.”
